Rewirpowerstadion Bochum
The stadium formerly named as Ruhrstadion was renamed to "Rewirpowerstadion" because of an agreement with the local energy supplier (Stadtwerke Bochum) , who is the Sponsor of the local football team (VfL Bochum).
The stadium is the home ground of VfL Bochum. The team has their practice sessions and play their home matches on the ground. The location in the northern-east of the city of Bochum was used as a football stadium since 1911. The todays Rewirpowerstadium was build new from 1976 and completed in the year 1979. The capacity of the stadium was decreased from 50,000 to 31,328.
The first match played in the stadium was between VfL Bochum and SG Wattenscheid 09 on 21 July 1979.
David Bowie had used this facility during his Moonlight tour on 15th June 1983.
The facility has won the bid to host matches of the prestigious 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
