Germany’s reigning football team captain is a Football icon around the globe and by far the most valuable player in the history of German football.  She has represented Germany in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Cups and was highly instrumental in Germany’s World Cup victories both in 2003 and 2007.

Birgit was born in Frankfurt am Main, on 25th Octobers1977 and currently plays for the Bundesliga giant FFC Frankfurt.  She made her National debut at the age of 16 on 26th July 1994 against Canada. She has an amazing appetite for goals which is evident from her records scoring an astonishing 128 goals in 208 appearances. She also holds record for most number of goals in the history of FIFA Women’s World Cup with 14 goals.

As a youth she started her career with SV Dörnigheim FC and made her first Bundesliga appearance for FSV Frankfurt in 1992 and continued with the club until 1998. During her stay with FSV Frankfurt, the team won two Championships and two Cups. Then she moved to FFC Frankfurt, where she won 7 Championships and Cups. Here she was extremely popular for her attacks in combination with another German Striker Sandra Smisek. Together they are nicknamed Keks und Krümel (Cookie and crumb). She had a short stint with Carolina Courage, a women’s football team in the United States. She eventually moved back to FFC Frankfurt. During her tenure at the FFC Frankfurt, Birgit Prinz won many personal accolades.

Besides football, Prinz is a practicing physiotherapist. She is also studying Psychology. She is a big time supporter of Anti-Racism campaign run by FIFA.

This World Cup could possibly be her last World Cup and she would love to add the third World Cup title to her illustrious career and hang her boots on a winning note.

It is widely believed that this legendry captain will guide Germany to their third successive title in the 2011 FIFA World Cup. This speculation puts Germany among the favourites to win this grand event.
