
Charlotta Eva Schelin
The Swedish player with great determination and a with never say die qualities was born on 27th February 1984 in Trångsund, Sweden. The Swede, more popularly as Lotta Schelin was diagnosed with a Spinal problem and was advised to quit the sport. However, she decided to continue with the game by laying more emphasis on fitness and strength training. She surprised everyone with 100% recovery by the age of 17.
Soon after her recovery she joined Damallsvenskan club Landvetter FC (now Göteborg FC). She was a very prominent player of the club with over 100 matches under her belt. However, injury forced her away from the game for over a year and a half.
She made her debut for the Swedish national team on 16th March 2004. She later went on to play the Algarve Cup and the summer Olympic in the same year. At the Olympics the team finished a commendable Fourth.
2006 saw Lotta leading the Swedish team finish a reputable third in the Algarve Cup. In the tussle for the Bronze Medal she scored the only goal of the match against France. Her efforts and the improvement she made, won her the Diamond Ball for being the best footballer of the country making her talk of the town. Every football lover knew who Schelin was. By now every club from the Swedish League wanted her on their team, however, Lotta decided to be with Göteborg, the club with her home town.
The new League in the United States was to a great extent able to attract her attention but at the end it was Olympique Lyonnais a French Club. Saint Louis Athletica from the United States selected her in the 2008 Drafts but she refused as she wanted to continue with Lyon.
With 22 goals from 56 matches, teams have a huge task on hand to stop Lotta from scoring goals in the upcoming 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
