The Big Red
The ‘Big Red’ nick name for the Canadian football team have their first match with the mighty Germans on 26th June in Berlin. As per FIFA ranking issued in March 2011, Canada is at the all time high at the 6th position. Canada has been part of all the World Cups expect for the first World Cup (1991) and their best performance was witnessed in the 2003, where they finished Fourth. Canada has won the CONCACAF's Women's Championship in 1998 and CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in 2010 and thus qualifying for the 2011 World Cup. In 2008 Olympics, Canada made its way to the Quarter finals but was defeated by the USA, who went to win the Gold medal.
The team is led by Captain Christine Sinclair and is in group ‘A’ along with Germany, Nigeria and France and has a might task on hand if the team has to get past the group stages.
