Like their male counterparts, French Women’s national team too is nick named "Les Bleues". 2011 is only their second appearance in the World Cups, 2003 being their first where they could not get past the group stages. The French team is currently ranked 8 by FIFA. Their biggest moment of success was when the team reached the Quarter final of the 2009 European Championship. The team is yet to participate at the Olympics. 2011 World Cup could just be the ideal platform for the team to showcase their talent and better their previous World Cup record.

Bruno Bini current French team coach, has coached the Under -19 Junior French team which won the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship in 2003. France has played Nine games against Germany of which Germany has won Seven Games and the French team two.
