"The Blueyellow"
Blågult or the "The Blueyellow" has been part of every single World Cup held so far. Besides USA, Sweden is another team from ‘C’ which is fancied as the World Cup Champions. Their best performance at the World Cup so far has been a Runners Up in the 2003 World Cup where they lost to Germany 2-1. They were Third in 1991 and Quarter Finalist twice (1999 and 1995).
The Swedish team being the host for the 2013 European Championship qualifies automatically. The team has been a proud winner of this Championship in 1984 and has been Runners up three times (1987, 1995 and 2001).
The exceptional talent in the shape of Lotta Schelin (Winner of the Diamond Ball for being the best footballer of Sweden) who overcame a severe back problem, where doctors had ruled her out of football. By her 17th birthday she was declared fit for the game and she never looked back after that.
Placed in Group ‘C’ along with USA, North Korea and Colombia, Blågults start their World Cup encounter against Colombia on 28th June 2011 at Leverkusen.
