Three Lionesses

The English team arrives in Germany for the 2011 FIFA women’s World Cup as the Runners up of the 2009 European Championship as they lost to the seven time European Champions, Germany 2-6. The three Lionesses are winners of the 1984 British Indoor Soccer Championship. The team has qualified for the World Cup three times (2011 and 1995 and 2007) and has reached the Quarter Finals in 1995 and 2007, however, getting past the quarter finals is like a Jinx which they would like to break in Germany.

The team has not been fortunate enough at the Olympics as they have never qualified. However, in 2012 they would be automatic qualifiers as London is the host city. Both the team and the fans are hopeful of some brilliant performances by their star Kelly Wayne Smith.

To be in the quarter finals the team would have to battle against Japan, New Zealand and Mexico in group ‘C’. Their first encounter is against Mexico on 27th June 2011 at Wolfsburg.
