The VFL Wolfsburg Arena is a multi-purpose stadium. The stadium has been used not only for football matches but also for performances by Elton John, Anastasia, and Bonnie Tyler.
The stadium was inaugurated on 13th December 2002. The earlier stadium had a capacity of 20,500. This was raised to 30,122 in the current stadium. Of the 30,122, only 22,000 fans can sit. Remaining 8122 fans would have to stand and enjoy the match. A whooping 53 million Euros were spent in the construction of the Volkswagen Arena.
The stadium has one of the best Pubs and restaurants in the city and is open not only on match days but also on regular days. Their specialities include Schnitzel and half a grilled chicken.
During the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Volkswagen Arena is one the nine stadiums to be used.
